# Courses & lessons

> How courses, phases, and lessons fit together — and why some content is locked until later.

A **course** in Campus is a structured sequence of lessons that maps to one Agile Academy training (for example, Scrum Master, Product Owner, or Agile Leadership). Inside a course, lessons are grouped into **phases**.

## Course language

Courses are available in **English** and **German**, and you choose the language **per course**. A switcher on the course page lets you take one course in English while keeping everything else in German — your choice is remembered.

Progress is shared across languages: a lesson you have completed stays completed whichever language you switch to. Changing the language only changes *which* lessons count toward 100% — it never deletes progress, and an earned certificate never regresses.

On the **Courses** overview, a card stays quiet when a course runs in your language. If a course isn't available in your language yet, the card shows an "Only available in English" (or German) note; once you are taking a course in a language other than your interface, a small language badge appears on its card.

## Phases — and why some content is locked

Phases gate when material becomes available. Most courses have something like:

* **Foundations** — open from day one, sets the vocabulary.
* **Practice** — unlocks after the first live session, deepens the topics.
* **Exam preparation** — unlocks closer to the assessment, contains exam-shaped questions.

  Phase gating is a **security boundary**, not a UX hint. Locked lesson content never reaches Henrik either — you cannot ask Henrik to summarise exam material before it unlocks.

If your trainer adjusts the cohort schedule, phases can shift. The dashboard always shows what is currently unlocked for you.

## Lesson types

    Most lessons are reading material with embedded video, audio, or diagrams. Audio lessons use a native player you can speed up.

    Open-ended prompts you answer in your own words. These feed Henrik's understanding of where you are — there is no "wrong" answer.

  <Card title="Assessments">
    Short quizzes or scenario questions, scored automatically. Results show up in the trainer dashboard.

  <Card title="Live session links">
    Cohort live sessions appear inline next to the lesson they relate to, with the join link active in the hour before.

  If a video is blocked on your network or in your region, Campus surfaces a direct YouTube link so you can still watch the lesson.

## Progress

Progress is **derived**, not stored as a single number. Campus tracks which lessons you have opened, which prompts you have answered, and which assessments you have taken — the percentage you see is computed from that. This means:

* Coming back to revise a lesson never moves your progress backwards.
* If a trainer adds new lessons mid-cohort, your percentage recalculates automatically.
* Modules without lessons — an intro video or a milestone, say — count as their own step. A course will not reach 100% or show as ready for the exam until those are done too.

## Exams & credentials

Some courses finish with an exam that earns a credential. There are two kinds, and the course's certification card tells you which one applies:

* **Certificate** — the full exam: 30 questions, 70% to pass.
* **Award** — a lighter exam for shorter courses: 10 questions, 70% to pass.

Before you start, an exam-rules panel shows the question count, the pass threshold, and the mix of question formats, so there are no surprises.

Exams are **gated**: the exam stays locked until you have completed the course's lessons (and any no-lesson modules). Your trainer can unlock it early if needed. The exam runs in the language you are taking the course in.

When you pass, the credential appears under **Profile → Certificates** as a badge you can download as a PDF — labelled "Certified in …" or "Awarded in …" depending on the type. If you already hold the credential from a previous cohort, Campus offers a practice retake instead of issuing a duplicate.

## Materials

Anything downloadable — slides, worksheets, certificates — lives under **Materials** in the sidebar. Materials are not phase-gated unless explicitly marked; they are organised by course.
